This Tutorial uses the TapeBlock method to create a multi-block Bird Character
VideoBirdTapeBlock
Material
- Foam blocks (various shapes)
- LEDs
- Conductive tape
- 3V battery
- Glue
- Decorative eyes
- Feathers
Instruction
- Use foam blocks with different shapes and arrange them to resemble a bird.
- Take an LED and check the length of the legs. Put a slight bend in the shortest leg of the LED. Open the legs so they sit flat.
- Run a thin strip of conductive tape along the top of the bird shape. Run a second strip of conductive tape parallel to the first.
- Place an LED in the middle of the two lines of tape and tape it down. Ensure the bent leg is at the back and the straight leg is at the front.
- Place another LED between the two pieces of tape with the bent leg at the back and the straight leg at the front. Stick the legs down with a small piece of tape.
- Add a 3V battery, ensuring the negative terminal is attached to the short-legged LED strip. The lights will come on.
- Glue the foam blocks together to form the bird shape.
- Place an eye on both sides of its head and glue them on.
- Use glue to add feathers for the wings and tail.
- Your tape block bird is now complete!
Problem Solving
- Make sure that the two lines of tape do not touch
- Make sure that the short leg are all facing the same direction
- Don't use too many LEDs or there will not be enough power
